Methadone treatment for heroin addiction?

by WithDrawMe

In methadone treatment is it common to experience intense, scary dreams? the dreams are very vivid and frightening, but they arent user dreams. My counselor says it isnt a side effect of methadone, but many methadone websites say it can be. Any personal experience with this?

I didn't notice any scary dreams the few times I detoxed on methadone. But if your dose is insufficient, you may not be sleeping well, and that could be enough to trigger certain dream states.

But why use methadone at all? - it's actually more addictive than heroin. I find it very suspicious that the medical establishment will supply us with a drug which is more dangerous than heroin, but doesn't give you a 'high'. Perhaps their real motivation isn't medical but in fact puritanical.

I found it much better to detox on controlled amounts of morphine.

That could be a side effect of the methadone. I'd let the doctor know about this.

I know that detoxing from alcohol you get wicked vivid and reality like dreams...it could just be a part of the process...I'm sure it will subside in time...keep up the good work.

If you are experiencing intense scary dreams, it may be related to the sub-conscious mind where u levelled with your past experience. You should discuss about that further with your counsellor.

For side effects, it is best to consult your doctor, although websites offer information, your doctor is the best person to know whether it is a side effect of the treatment he/she is administering on you.

Some ppl do have hallucinations with various treatments however, as I mentioned, due to leveling past experiences. If u r on other medications as well in the treatment.
