Tests have also showed that the formulation of buprenorphine is safe, well-tolerated, and has no side effects nor signs of any opioid intoxication or respiratory depression. In addition, the patients did not anymore need additional medication for the relief of withdrawal symptoms. All in all, buprenorphine seems an appealing alternative to methadone in the treatment of drug addiction.
